For an overview of the extensive functionality of BESA, it is best to take a look at our tutorials.

We recommend tutorials 1, 3, 6, 7 and 8 for a comprehensive overview. The new distributed 3D imaging techniques of BESA 5.2 are introduced in Tutorial 10.

The following tutorials can be downloaded:

• Tutorial 1: Getting started with EEG simulations (25 Feb 2004). Introduction to the basics of source analysis and the BESA user interface using simulated EEG data.
• Tutorial 2: Getting started with MEG simulations (23 Aug 2002). Introduction to the basics of source analysis with focus on the concept of regional sources using simulated MEG data.
• Tutorial 3: Tutorial on a reaction-time EEG experiment (25 May 2008). All steps of data analysis from preprocessing to artifact rejection, averaging, source analysis and integration of fMRI.
• Tutorial 4: Tutorial on a visual flowfield MEG experiment (8 March 2007). All steps of data analysis from preprocessing to artifact rejection, averaging, source analysis and integration with fMRI.
• Tutorial 5: Tutorial on an AEP intensity experiment (25 May 2008). Using batch scripts to generate a grand average source model and to obtain robust individual source waveforms in group studies.
• Tutorial 6: Tutorial on source coherence (25 May 2008). Introduction to the concept of source montages and time-frequency analysis with application to a simulated and a real example of error-related negativity data.
• Tutorial 7: Tutorial on epileptiform EEG activity (25 May 2008). Benefits and pitfalls of source analysis of spikes and seizure onsets with application of advanced tools like spectral analysis using brain source montages (cf. also lecture 'BESA Source Analysis in Epilepsy' and movie on the analysis of epileptiform EEG activity).
• Tutorial 8: Tutorial on artifact correction (25 May 2008). Artifact correction in continuous and averaged data. Demonstration of source analysis in the presence of artifacts.
• Tutorial 9: Tutorial on multiple source beamformer (25 May 2008). Demonstration of the BESA Multiple Source Beamformer to image oscillatory activity. Hands on simulated and real data.
• Tutorial 10: Tutorial on distributed source imaging (25 May 2008). Introduction the new 3D volume imaging techniques in BESA 5.2 including a discussion of the effects of regularization.
